Mayweather To Step in The Ring, But Not for Boxing

February 26th, 2008 Sports News Guy Posted in Boxing No Comments »

A $20 million payday will go to the undefeated WBC welterweight champ when he wrestles, you didn’t read that wrong, WRESTLES, the Big Show as part of WrestleMania XXIV on March 30th.

Mayweather recently appeared on the WWE and punched the Big Show in the nose “reportedly” breaking it, but really who knows with this sport. This whole thing is such a joke, the Big Show probably weighs double what Mayweather weighs but if wrestling fans will pay to see it, then what does the WWE care about story line.

I’m still waiting on the rematch between Mayweather and De La Hoya, hopefully this doesn’t become Mayweather’s full time job, although if the money’s right I’m sure he would consider. While he is a great boxer, outside of the ring he is more of a clown that can be payed for entertainment. Dancing with The Stars and now WWE, what’s next?

Floyd Mayweather is a Bigger Douche than I Thought

February 18th, 2008 Sports News Guy Posted in Boxing No Comments »

As if Pretty Boy Floyd doesn’t have enough money, the champ has now entered the wrestling world. Floyd Mayweather participated in Sunday’s “No Way Out” pay-per-view event in which he “broke The Big Show’s nose” with a flurry of punches. I put that in quotes because who knows if he really hit him or not, it’s wrestling. Here’s hoping he takes the re-match with De La Hoya and Oscar can shut him up for good. But I doubt it. Until that fight is set, guess you will have to watch WWE for your Floyd Mayweather fix.

Roy Jones beats Felix Trinidad

January 21st, 2008 Sports News Guy Posted in Boxing No Comments »

In what could have been the fight of the year back in 2001, Roy Jones won the unanimous decision over Felix Trinidad. Trinidad was knocked down twice which helped Jones seal the deal on points. Both fighters are now past their prime but it would be interesting to see Jones make a come back, he used to be quite a fun boxer to watch.

Boxing has really gone down hill as of late, the Hatton, Mayweather fight revived my interest for a short time but as I’ve said before we need a really great fight to get back to where boxing was before. I miss the Arturo Gatti, Mickey Ward slug fests. I want those fights back.

Mayweather vs. De La Hoya Rematch?

January 17th, 2008 Sports News Guy Posted in Boxing No Comments »

According to ESPN.com, Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Oscar De La Hoya are close to finishing a deal for a rematch, if this happens the fight would be available on HBO pay-per-view Sept. 13th or Sept. 20th.

In the last fight, Mayweather won a split decision in what looked more like a “Dancing with the Stars” episode than a fight. I guess Mayweather was just training for his stint on that show. De La Hoya seemed to be the only one interested in exchanging blows but that seems typical in most of Mayweathers fights. It gets pretty boring to watch Mayweather run in, throw a few punches, and then run out and dance around the ring. I have to say though that Mayweather did surprise me in his fight against Hatton on December 8th. This could have been because Hatton pressed all the action and was unfortunatelly knocked out.

I for one will not be paying for this fight again, boxing has become a disapointment to me and until an epic match can happen again I may never regain interest, I’ll stick to UFC. But what if this is the match I’ve been waiting for? Well then I guess I will catch it for free the next Saturday on HBO and use the $50 bucks I saved to buy some booze.
