April 23rd, 2008 Sports News Guy Posted in NFL No Comments »

Earlier this year I wrote about the Seahawks picking up two running backs in the offseason and the chance that Shaun Alexander’s job could be in jeopordy. Turns out it’s true, the 2005 MVP was released from the Seahawks yesterday.

Alexander was awarded an eight-year $62 million contract just two seasons ago, but those two seasons, Alexander has been plauged with injuries, and has been ineffective on the field. This led to many Seahawk fans booing the 2005 MVP.

Is Shaun Alexander Gone?

March 11th, 2008 Sports News Guy Posted in NFL No Comments »

The Seahawks are on the verge of adding a new running back, reaching an agreement Friday with Julius Jones. Earlier in the week the Seahawks signed power back T.J. Duckett.

Jones will receive a four-year contract worth nearly $12 million that will allow him to compete for the starting tailback job, depending on what happens with Alexander. Will Alexander retire or will the Seahawks keep them around, letting him fight for the starting position? We should see more news on this in the next coule weeks.

The Giants signed coach Tom Coughlin to a four year deal today that will pay the Super Bowl winning coach roughly $21 million.

It’s funny that just a few months ago Coughlin had a doubtful future as the Giants coach. He nearly lost his job at the end of the 2006 season and many fans called for his termination even deep into this season. We’ll see if he can pull out another great season next year.

Bret Favre Retires

March 4th, 2008 Sports News Guy Posted in NFL No Comments »

According to FoxSports.com, legendary quarterback Brett Favre has decided to retire. There has been much speculation about whether he would stay or go, but it’s belived that he informed the Packers of his decision within the last few days. Favre and the team have yet to make the decision known.

Unless he changes his mind, which wouldn’t surprise me, Favre will leave the game after 17 years, after flirting with retirement the last few years, Favre will finally go out on the heels of one of the best seasons of his career. He led the Packers to the NFC Championship Game after passing for 4,155 yards, 28 TDs, and had a 95.7 quarterback rating. Favre leaves the game as the all-time record holder in several categories including wins, passing yards, touchdowns, and consecutive games started.

The signing of Samuel brings into question the future of Eagles cornerback Lito Shepard who has missed playing time over the last three seasons due to injuries.

More Raiders News

February 29th, 2008 Sports News Guy Posted in NFL No Comments »

Former Raider Quarterback Josh McCown has signed with the Miami Dolphins. McCown signed a 2 year $6.25 Million contract and will most likelly be the Dolphins starter, although he will have competition in John Beck who is most likelly the Dolphins 1st round draft pick.

In other news, rumors are flying that Bernard Berrian could be on his way to Oakland. The Vikings could not get him signed as quickly as they had expected, although they are still in the runnings, the Raiders seem to be showing interest and he could be an answer to the loss of Porter who just signed with the Jaguars. The Raiders also have quite a bit of cap room and that could be a good pick up for them, he could be a deep threat if Jamarcus Russell comes around as the Raiders are hoping.

It’s been quite a week for the Raiders who also signed Defensive Tackle Tommy Kelly, we’ll see how it all works out next season. Here’s hoping this is finally the year I don’t attempt to drink myself to death due to the poor play of the Raiders, but I doubt it.
